Ayurveda is the natural health care system of India and sister science to yoga -
both are over 5000 years old. Through Ayurveda we work on the physical,
mental and emotional levels to prepare for yoga or Divine Union, the realization
of the Self. This class will focus on Self Awareness through yoga asana
(postures), pranayama (breath techniques), mantra (vibrational sound), marma (pressure points, similar to acupressure) and various meditation techniques.
In this class, you will receive a free booklet explaining the basics of Ayurveda.
We will use an Ayurvedic language and Ayurvedic principles in combination with
various yoga practices to learn about ourselves on any particular day and in
moment to moment awareness. This means that as we learn what our body,
mind and consciousness need for balance, we may all choose different practices
during our class - learning to let the guidance come from within. The hope
is that we will then be able to take this practice of awareness off the mat and
out into the world, our surroundings and our relationships to create harmony and
balance from the inside out.
To participate in this class, you must have a solid foundation in the basic yoga
poses, be willing to explore creative movements and variations in the poses and
come prepared to focus attention and awareness on what you experience in the
practices.
